Which is the best font one should use for English language agreements (say rental or lease agreement? Is there any popular or stutory guidance regarding this?

If every experts reply, then you will see that almost all the fonts are good.
Such things can be decided by yourself. Use the font which you like and which looks good for your eyes. Only thig to keep in mind is the contents shall be legible.
Such things are purely personal dicisions. Learn to take dicisions on your own.

Being a housewife, what difference it make?
it is a question like Which color saree you should wear preparing Dosa?
"Anna" is important, not plate.
Content is important, not font.
Use what majority use, Arial, times new roman , Tahoma, there are hundred.
Reader should like it, not writer.
