(Querist) 31 March 2009 This query is : Resolved
What is the difference between:
1. Legal
2. Statutory
3. Regulatory
4.Act
5. Rules

The point is, how does one explain the difference in simple language to a person who does not possess legal background?

PALNITKAR V.V. (Expert) 31 March 2009
Legal is a very vide term that embraces remaining 4. Act, in legal sense, is the law made by the legislative bodies like Parliament or the Assembly. It is the mother of the Rules and the Regulations since the rules and the regulations must be made under the authority given by an Act and subserve the Act.Act and Statute are akin. Statutory, Regulatory are adjectives derived from words Statute and Regulation respectively.
