The main advantage is that you can get donations from known and unknown persons which you may not be that easy if the trust is not there.The disadvantage is that so many govt agencies get control over the trust and you get bound by the trust laws. There are many other advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages and disadvantages of the trusts depend upon the type of trust. Trust cannot distribute losses to its beneficiaries, it is the major disadvantage of a trust. The major advantage is the ability to split income amongst the pool of beneficiaries.
