Regarding Credit card payments

(Querist) 20 July 2011 This query is : Resolved
Hi,

I was using SCB credit card from 2000 with Annual charges. in the year 2004, I asked for waiver of annual fee as other banks are offering free credit card and they waived the annual fee.

I asked for annual fee waiver in the following month and SCB bank said, they cant provide. So I asked them to cancel the card and I sent the card to BAnk(I dont have the proof with me).

SCB bank added interest for that annual fee and asking me to pay 25000 as settlement.

Please advice on how I can Proceed..
Regards,

Unless you could show that the Bank has added interest after it waived the annual charges, you have no case.
However, if you could show such things then you could seek appropriate remedy from the Consumer Forum.

Will the bank share the summary of Accounts or the account statement?
Devajyoti Barman (Expert) 20 July 2011
Yes if you file a case as refusal to share such statement would cause a negative presumption in the mind of the court.

I have very good credit report other than this Bank. Whats your suggestion on taking this Further..

Do I have to file a case or go for settlement as Bank requested. I am not ready to pay 25000 to the bank..

As per ur post u are a credit card user of Bank SCB, u asked for annual fee waiver on the notion that othr banks are providing the same, bank refused to do the same and in return you stopped the service of credit card at the very same time bt the bank is demanding the annual fee with interest ... if it so provide me the exact date of :
whn u stopped the service? exact mnth/ year.
what is the annual fee?
hw ch interest they levied ?
Are you still a customer of that bank?

Approach the Bank Ombudsman, he can solve your problem effectively without any cost or hassles.

although Bank Ombudsman is a forum ,they do not seem to be so friendly.you do not have the proof of having sent the card is another mistake.write them that when you have surrendered the card unused how are they asking for charges, how they a/c it.then move to consumer forum.

If you have already requested the Bank to cancel the card and returned card, they do not have right to charge annual fee and interest on it. Though you have no proof of returning the card, since you have not used the card, it is a supporting evidence. You can reply the Bank you do have any liability as you have returned the card on so and so date and thereafter there are transactions in the credit card. Arrange for issuing a lawyer's notice to stop this harassment. The Bank will drop the matter in all probability.
