This question has resolved earlier. However an advocate must have his name entered in any roll maintained under the Advocate Act i.e. Bar Council of India or State Bar Councils. Lawyer is person learned in law may be an advocate, pleader, legal advisor etc.
Jainodin shaikh (Querist) 05 February 2009
According to my personal knowledge: LAWYER is a law graduate who is enrolled on the roll of Bar Council of India. ADVOCATE is a prefix use before the name of a lawyer. COUNSEL means a lawyer who used to advise his clients (pre litigation stage). PLDADER is a lawyer engaged by a party to handle their case on behalf of them (post litigation stage) BARRISTOR is a person who have obtained a degree in law from U.K. ATTORNEY is a lawyer in full time employment of the government to represent the government in Courts. I would like to admit that my knowledge needs certain upgradations thatswhy I am marking this query as OPEN.
