Guest (Querist) 21 November 2010 This query is : Resolved
whether the stridhana property (jewels, utensils and property gifted to son in law) can be recovered from the matrimonial home after the death of the woman. in this case lady died of due to dowry harassment and FIL and SIL are charged u/s 304 B of IPC and other dowry act provisions. criminal case pending

According to my knowledge, 'Stridhana' is those stuffs given to the girl. What is gifted to the bride-groom does not fall under the category of 'Stridhana'.
Other experts may throw more light on this aspect.

Yes. And for the recovery the police can search the matrimonial home.

If the girl died because of the dowry harassment, you can take the stridhana from the matrimonial house, with the help of the police.

yes. I agree. But you cannot file any suit for the recovery of the expenses in the absence of any contract in that regard.

stridhan means gifts given to the girl at the time of marraiage but it dosen't applicable to the gifts given to son in law but if the girl is died then it may be different....? Not sure....
