Television Debates

(Querist) 01 September 2010 This query is : Resolved
Popular satellite TV channels like TIMES NOW, NDTV, Headlines Today, News X, etc engage popular personalities to debate in the News channels during prime time on sensitive issues and are well anchored and organised by Top Class TV Journalists like Arnab Goswami, Prannoy Roy, Barkha Dutt, etc.

Our LCI can nominate leading law experts and take up with these channels to participate in various debates. Eminent Lawyers enrolled in the forum cutting across all political party lines can pro-actively involve in these debates and add values to our Advocate profession neutrally. Many prominent advocates like Harish Salve, Mahesh Jethmalani, Jayanthi Natarajan, Manish Tiwari, Majid Memon, etc are simply confined to defend their respective political parties than showing their mettle to enhance values to our profession. LCI should seriously consider this proposal.

Sir, I have attended almost half a dozen of similar programmes and debates of NDTV. The anchors invite limited individuals who are their favourites for reasons known to them and project the particular opinions. The general participants hardly get any chance to express their views and one returns in disgust or frustation for having wasted his valuable time.

That is why I have stated LCI with its membership in excess of 81K members must take up with these TV channels to make the experts participate in such national debates. We need not be a general participant but can even to invited to a panel. Expertise in Law should not be confined to virtual forum
