We own a open terrace building in South Mumbai and every year during monsoon we face leakage problems due to rainwater. How do we get permission for permanent shed. Our building is 75 years old

You can put temoporary shed on open terrace of your flat. You can approach ward office or you can install it with proper care in your flat's open tearrace.

Your property is your own. so you can but it is better to take permission for construction of shed from the Corpn.

What is legal issue involved in your post for consideration and obligation of experts ?

The issue is that permanent sheds cannot be constructed for old buildings and as far as we know there's no law for construction of permanent shed for old residential buildings... How do we built a permanent shed on our self owned self occupied building terrace.hope I'm able to explain

When you make any construction / reconstruction, except some minor repairs or temporary structures, in any building in an area where building regulation is in force, you need to get permission from the local authority.

The local authority will examine the structural stability of the existing building before sanctioning permission for such reconstruction. Even the local authority cans ask you to demolish the building if the old building can cause potential danger to the people or property of others at your cost. That you own the property or building does not mean that you are at liberty do anything in that building when it is regulated under building rules.

In a 75 year old building it is quite unlikely for you to get permission to construct a permanent structure on your terrace.

Rather you can have some sort of low weight temporary roofing that does not destabilise your building’s health.
