Im planning to submit an RTI application to Anna Universtity,Chennai.
How many queries an applicant can ask in a single RTI application?.
I'm seeking information for 4 nested queries in single RTI application related to my issue.
What's the time duration for the public information officer to reply for my queries?

Dear querist,

There is no limit to ask information under RTI in single applicatin. The time duration to provide information is 30 days.

Dear Sir,
Everything is available on the website of concerned Anna University and you may advise to limit your three queries in each RTI application. Normally 45 days is required to get replies.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 20 March 2020
You can ask as many as queries through your application submitted under the provisions of RTI act, 2005.
The IO should give a reply within 30 days from the date of receipt of your application seeking information.
Rajendra K Goyal (Expert) 30 March 2020
If you do not get reply in 30 days, you can send first appeal before the first appellate authority.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 30 March 2020
Yes you can prefer an appeal if you do not get reply within the stipulated 30 days period of time.
This will be called as first appeal.
Prajesh Jehan (Querist) 11 April 2020
Sir
I approached Anna university for certain information through RTI act .My application was received by Anna university on 2020 March10.Due to COVID pandemic and Lock down the university is closed.
Shall I wait for another one month from the date of lock down got released?
Or
Shall I approach First appellate after the release of lockdown?
Rajendra K Goyal (Expert) 11 April 2020
Time for filing first appeal is after 35 (+7 days for postal transit time) but within 60 days from the date of receipt of RTI Application at PIO’s Office.

In the given circumstances, you may file appeal within the time given above. Nothing prevents PIO to provide information even after first appeal is filed.
Prajesh Jehan (Querist) 11 April 2020
Sir
What is the format to make the appeal to the appellate authority.?
Shall I directly appeal or it should be done through lawyer?
Raj Kumar Makkad (Expert) 11 April 2020
We do not provide formats here and moreover there is no such prescribed format. You can file the appeal yourself. There is no requirement of engaging a lawyer for this purpose.
Rajendra K Goyal (Expert) 11 April 2020

Who can file First Appeal?
A person who submitted an RTI Application and aggrieved by no response or unsatisfactory reply or incorrect information.
Third Party or parties whom the information sought relates to or has been supplied and treated as Confidential.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 11 April 2020
First Appeal should be filed before the designated First Appellate Authority (FAA), who is an officer higher in rank than PIO.
Details of First Appellate Authority shall be included in PIO's decision letter itself. When there is no response / decision from PIO, it is better to search website (RTI link) of the public authority for FAA details.
Details of FAA can also be obtained through telephone from the office of public authority. Alternatively, if the office of PIO is nearer to applicant, he can visit PIO’s office, where details of PIO / FAA can be gathered from RTI Notice Board.
In case, the applicant is not able to get details or address of FAA, applicant can address First Appeal as “The First Appellate Authority under RTI, Office of ……………………………, and send it to the address of PIO.
First Appeal can also be submitted to APIO for onward submission to FAA.
T. Kalaiselvan, Advocate (Expert) 11 April 2020
Situations for filing First Appeal : PIO did not respond within 30 days from
receipt of RTI Application in his office.

Time limit for filing First Appeal: After 30 (+7 days for postal transit time) but
within 60 days from the date of receipt of RTI
Application at PIO’s Office.
