WARM REGARDS

1. I have asked an RTI to govt department. They are asking money to send the information of 25 pagaes by registered post.

Quety : kindly clarify if there is any law by which the govt dept can ask money for sending the information by registered post in time to me.

No, They can't demand legally registered post charges.

1. The stamp duty for furnishing the information is Rs.10
2. The cost of documents to be furnished shall be collected from the aplicant.
3. Postage shall not be collected which is included in the said Rs.10

The cost is for taking copies of the documents containing the information required by you.

yes, all the above replies are correctly answered. please note the following too.

1) The Govt dept can ask fee from you towards the cost of information which is normally rs. 2 per page. They can't ask any money towards postage, courier etc.

2) If the reply or information is not provided by the Government within 30 days, then all the information should be supplied to you free of cost. you need not pay any money.

3) Further, if you are below poverty line, all the information would be supplied to you free of cost.
