The bank has to comply the KYC guidelines laid down by RBI. They are supposed to obtain the following:

1) Photo identitity - It can be PAN Card, Adhar card or Identity card issued by employers (Govt/Public Sector employers), pass port. That means any authenticated evidence showing your name and photo together on the paper/card.
2) Address Proof: Ration Card, Electricity Bill (in your name), Pass Port, Municipal Tax Receipt, Telephone Bill, Adhaar Card, Gas allotment letter with recent gas bill etc. That means any document which shows the present address and should tally with the address provided by you in the application.
3) Pass Port size Photo.
4) Application for opening the account (which will be given by the bank once you have the above three documents) and it should be properly filled in.
5) For Savings Accounts and deposit accounts the above are sufficient.
6) For Current Deposit Accounts (normally used for business transactions), your account should be introduced by another existing account holder of the Bank.
Nowadays it is not difficult to open a Bank account. If you have Adhaar Card and a pass port size photo, you can as well walk into the bank and open it instantly.
