498-a is mis using. 90% people are using this section as weapon but not as a safe guard. But one bad thing is that the 70% woman who is really suffuring in the hands of husbands are not coming forward to file cases.

In fact the Supreme court has stated that the legal aid should be provided right from the time the accused is produced after arrest , before the magistrate for remand. unfortunately in our country legal aid is provided much later i.e., when the matter comes up for trial or in appeal.
