NLSIU is organizing an intensive training program in Law and Economics from July 07 to July 25, 2008, as part of the activities under the Asia Link Program on Human Resource Development in Law and Economics in India and Europe. 

The workshop is for students and junior faculty with a knowledge of economics and studying Law or Economics and located in Bangalore. 

The schedule of the workshop is as follows.

The workshop will have classes in the afternoon from 2.30 pm to around 6pm. Each of these will have an essay test which will be graded on a four point scale. Workshop completion certificates will be given by The University of Hamburg , Germany to only those who successfully complete all three courses. Applications (with 250 words write up on you interest in Law and Economics, a brief resume, email id and contact phone numbers) should be sent to lawecon@nls.ac.in by the 28th of June. NLSIU National Law School of India University, Bangalore is the first law University in the country which is sponsored by the Bar Council of India and is acknowledged as the leading law school for legal education and research. The International Bar Association has established a chair for promoting continuing education and professional development as part of the law schools’ extension activities. Professor V. Nagaraj, who teaches a variety of skills education programmes at NLSIU has been involved in the training of lawyers and judges and will be is coordinating the course on behalf of the IBA-CLE Chair. MILAT Menon Institute of Legal Advocacy Training is an educational Charity Institution registered in Kerala and promoted by its chairman Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon. MILAT’s activities include advocacy skills training for young advocates, continuing legal education, citizenship education for youth, socio – legal research and reforms, promotion of rule of law and human rights advocacy. Prof. Menon who pioneered legal education reforms through the five – year integrated LL.B. progrmme and clinical legal pedagogy will also be involved on behalf of MILAT in the conduct of the course. TRIAL ADVOCACY Advocacy in trial courts involves a number of skills and litigation strategies most of which are not taught in law schools. Traditionally they are learnt in parts during the first few years of practice. With developments in skill education and training it is now possible to acquire some of these skills in a classroom setting with the help of simulations, role plays and small group exercises. The theory underlying trial practice is now available for study and reflection. The Trial Advocacy Course is developed combining theory with practice with a view to provide opportunities for experiential learning under the guidance of expert and experienced trial lawyers. The object is to give the confidence and expertise required to conduct independent litigation in trial courts (Civil and Criminal) with a sense of professional responsibility. THE PROGRAMME The Programme will focus on the following areas mentioned in the schedule with adequate emphasis on Simulation Exercises/Mock Trial . A distinguished panel of senior trial lawyers and a team of clinical legal educators are being assembled to conduct various sessions of the course. The course is residential and limited to 30 young lawyers selected from among the applicants. Those successfully completing all requirements of the course will be awarded certificates of participation. A registration fee of Rupees Five thousand (Rs. 5000/-) only is prescribed which may be
sent by Demand Draft drawn in favour of the National Law School of India University, Bangalore. It includes accommodation, food, study materials, tuition fee and related expenditure. ESSAY COMPETITION IN CONSTITUTIONAL LAW – 
The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, in the year 1997, instituted a Gold Medal in the name of the distinguished jurist, late H.M. Seervai for the best original essay written on a theme specific to Indian Constitutional Law. Since 1997, this essay writing competition has become a prestigious event for the law students all over India. The significant rise every year in the number of contributions from the student community shows their respect and tribute to one of the greatest legal luminaries of our country – H.M. Seervai. 
The theme selected for 2008 is “PARDONING POWER UNDER THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION: PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES”. 
The Competition is open only for the Under-graduate students in Law (B.A., LL.B / B.Sc., LL.B / B.Com., LL.B & LL.B) studying in any of the recognized Law Schools / Colleges / Departments of Universities in India. 
The essay that is adjudged to be the best will be awarded a Gold Medal at the Annual Convocation of NLSIU, Bangalore, to be held in the month of August, 2008. 
The essay, should be in English; should be original i.e. not published earlier or extracted from other sources and should not exceed 10,000 words (approximately 30 double space typed pages, Times New Roman, Font size 12) including footnotes and references and typed on one side of A4 size paper. 
All the pages along with one additional white page for the first (title cover) and the last page must be stapled. As our eco-friendly practice, plastic wrappers and spiral bindings are discouraged. 
Four copies of the essay should be submitted so as to reach
