285 HC positions vacant as CJs fail to give proposals


The government said that vacancies in high courts across the country were because it was not getting "sufficient proposals" despite periodic reminders to the chief justices. Though over 40 lakh cases were pending before various HCs, 285 posts are lying vacant in higher judiciary accounting for 31% of the sanctioned strength of 895 judges.
