SC to take up plea on Jaya cases The Supreme Court today agreed to take up for final disposal, the DMK's petition questioning a Bangalore court's decision to club two separate corruption cases involving former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha. A bench headed by Justice B N Aggrawal said it would take up the matter for final disposal after four weeks. The two issues related to alleged disproportionate assets accumulated by Jayalalitha and the alleged purchase of a hotel in London from her alleged unaccounted wealth. The two cases were transferred out of Chennai to Bangalore by the Supreme Court in 2004 after several witnesses turned hostile and the DMK leader K Anbazagham filed a petition seeking its transfer. Though the issues relating to disproportionate assets and the purchase of London hotel involved two independent criminal proceedings against the former Chief Minister, the trial court in Bangalore clubbed the two matters together for going ahead with the trial. Anbazagham filed another petition challenging the clubbing of the cases on the ground that it would unnecessarily delay the trial in the disproportionate assets case which according to him was at an advanced stage.
