In a major development, the Supreme Court has ordered that it will hear the Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid case from August 6.

The hearing will be held on a day-to-day basis.

The Court noted that mediation proceedings have failed to yield results.

The order was passed by the Constitution Bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer.

On March 8, a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court had referred the long-standing Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid dispute for mediation. The mediation panel was chaired by former Supreme Court judge Justice FMI Kalifulla along with spiritualist Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Senior Advocate Sriram Panchu.

In May, the Court extended the deadline given to the Mediation Committee allowed it to complete the process by August 15.
