Soren acquitted in Chirrudih massacre case JMM supremo and Lok Sabha MP Sibu Soren on Thursday was acquitted in the Chirrudih massacre of 1975, Jamtara Additional District and Sessions Judge Arun Kumar acquitted Soren and 13 others for want of evidence. The court held seven persons guilty in the case. Out of the 22 accused, one person did not appear in the court on Thursday. The court would pronounce the quantum of punishment to the seven convicts in the case. Soren told reporters that "justice has triumphed". Soren had to quit as Union Coal Minister in July 2004 after the Jamtara court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in connection with the massacre at Chirrudih. Soren was one of the 69 people accused of killing eleven people at Chirrudih village in Narayanpur police station on 23rd January 1975. Soren surrendered before the court on 2nd August 2004. He remained behind bars for 38 days before the Jharkhand High Court gave him bail in the case in September 2004. Tags- Source:india.gov.in
