Shri Neelkantha Ramakrishnan Madhava Menon was born on 04th May 1935 in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala and is noted as an Indian Lawyer but is recognised as the pillar or the foundational asset in the establishment of NLSIU, Bangalore (being its founder-director) & is popularly quoted as the ‘FATHER OF INDIAN MODERN LEGAL EDUCATION’ who put forth the idea of 5 years integrated law course making it as the first option priority in the Indian Scenario, which ought to be perceived as a secondary option in the primitive days of the establishment of Legal Profession.

Shri Menon also privileged the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal & West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (Kolkata) being their founder-director and founder Vice-Chancellor, respectively.

Shri Menon was the ‘MAN OF ERA’ and traced its path towards heaven on 8th May 2019 leaving a void in the legal fraternity which could be hard to fill and replace. To preserve his ideas, sayings and thoughts for our coming Bharat a memorial meeting to pay homage to Shri Madhava Menon was held in New DELHI which was graced by luminating presence of Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad (Minister of Law & Justice), Justice Shri Dipak Misra (Former Chief Justice of India) and Justice Indira Banerjee (Sitting Supreme Court Judge of India).

Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad, the present Law Minister of India quoted that Shri Madhavan was and is an ‘ICON’ of the Legal fraternity and as a pioneering force behind the establishment of the National Law Schools throughout the Country and therefore he proposed to host a lecture series in his memory so that his vision could be reached to the brilliant minds of our country, which can make our country to move in the direction of Legal Profession prosperity and changing jurisprudence as per the changing needs.

Remembering the lovely memories with Shri Menon, former-CJI Shri Dipak Misra reflected his fondness for the great personality by referring him as an ‘incurable optimist’ and a visionary of his own kind by stating,

“Professor Menon was not confined to the present but thought about the anticipated future… He emphasized on citizenry rights in a different way and justice to the poor.”
