The High Court disposed off a public interest writ petition that questioned the authority of police regulating the roadshows organized by political parties. The roadshows were banned following the inconvenience they caused to general public and sometimes resulting into severe stampedes. During the pendency of the writ petition, DGP S S P Yadav prepared a set of guidelines to be observed by all political parties while conducting road shows. The DGP sought assent of the High Court to implement the same to prevent unwanted obstruction to traffic. A division bench of the High Court comprising chief justice A R Dave and justice R Subash Reddy pointed out that the guidelines prepared by the DGP would adequately meet the requirement, therefore, no order was required by the court. The bench observed that all political parties should adhere to the guidelines. The High Court had passed interim orders staying the roadshows on November 26 this year.
