Are trainees required to pay PT, PF, ESI ?

ARE TRAINEES AND APPRENTICES SAME OR any diff?

ESI shall be payable but not PF. Apprentices are of two types , one under the Apprentices Act and other directly employed. The one under the Apprentices Act have no relation of Master Servant with the employer while direct are employees of the employer but for specific purposes and duration. Direct apprentices and trainees are one and the same.

Thanks Sir for ur valuable input, can u plz gv details abt PT dedun for trainees if salary given by check ? an d do apprentices need to pay PT, ESI PF? coz i think u hv ansred for trainees that they shud contribute for ESI, ! PLZ CLARIFY

Salary paid to any employee , whether through cheque or otherwise attracts statutory deduction as per the pF, ESI or PT acts. However Apprentices allowed to work under provisions of Apprentice Act are paid Stipend which is not exigible to such deduction.
