The principles of valuation for duty are laid down in Sections 20-28 of the Stamp Act. It may however be pointed out that Section 27 is important. In that Section it is clearly mentioned that the consideration, if any, the market vaue of the property and all other facts and circumstances affecting the chargeability of any instrument with duty, or the amount of duty with which it is chargeable, shall be fully and truly setforth therein. If the document is not propertly stamped because of incorrect valuation, then the document will not be admissible in evidence under Section 35.

A Stamp paper or a franked document is valid only for 6 months from the date of Franking.
