Legal notice and laws against online reviews

Hello, We run a retail business in Hyderabad and Chennai. Offlate, we have seen that some negative reviews about our business are posted on website Mouthshut.com. These reviews show up on Google.com right on the top when anyone is searching for our services by our company name. These reviews are not verified, are written by users of mouthshut.com. And when we reply to such comments, mouthshut.com removes / blocks our account and asks us to pay for corporate solutions to resolve these issues. This is completely unfair to promote their business by writing negative reviews about us and then not letting us participate and asking for money. Our business names which are our registered trademarks are being used by this company to enhance the traffic to their site online and thus making money. Can we take legal action against this site which is headquartered in Mumbai and ask them to take down the reviews? Under what rights / laws can they be taken to court and punishable?

If you have a mail ID of the site, you send a strong "mail" warning them not to  cast/encourage  such types  of  "alleged things" and further demanded them to STOP  such castings immediately.  And also inform them, in case of failing, you will take severe action against them.

Ms. Firdaus - Thanks for the reply.

However, there are other rules under the Information Technology (Intermediaries guidelines) Rules, 2011. An article (link here) is written where the Supreme court declined a petition by Mouthshut.com regarding such reviews. Can you elaborate more on this if you have more knowledge about these rules?

Also, mouthshut.com uses search engine optimization to display their reviews on top of google when anyone is searching for any brand. A simple search for "airtel digital tv review" or any other brand name will lead to their website.

These content is not approved or even verified. Most such reviews are just opinion and can be work of competitors. Can we send a legal notice to them on any strong ground to remove such content or threaten them with legal action?
