Gauhati hc reserves judgment on women reservation

The Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court, on the hearing of the writ petition yesterday, has reserved its judgment on the 33 per cent seat reservation for women in the civic bodies.

According to sources here today, the Judge heard the arguments from both the counsels representing of the petitioner and the respondent and reserved the judgment accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Naga Mothers' Association (NMA), which had filed the writ petition, said they were hopeful that the judgment is expected in a few days of time.

The High Court on June 24 admitted the writ petition filed by JAC of NMA on June 23 on 33 per cent reservation for women in civic bodies in the state as the State Government had failed to implement it.

There have so far been five hearings on the issue.

The fifth hearing of the writ petition was on September 27 last.
