Is husband responsible for wife's debts

If he inherits her property then he has first to clear her debts.if she makes for family necessities then he had to discharge it

Wife is still alive . She is a business woman and has availed loans to the tune of 50 Lakhs and now is being threatened by the lenders that they will proceed legally against her. Husband has nothing to do with her business . Husband is a employee in private sector. Can lenders proceed against husbands property or bank accounts which is in his name only.
