My friend was doing job of a temporary lecturer ( no grant from govt at all) in state govt university. He got an offer from a good company. He has sent resignation by post and joined new job.But the problem is he has received order for poll duty.
Can any legal action be taken against him?

Certainly yes. As long as a person's regisation is not accepted, & not releived from duty, he can't escape from the employer (where govt or private). mere sending resignation through post doesn't complete the service termination process, hence there is a chance that Govt may take desciplinary action against your friend. so be aware.

He has to attend the poll duty first and then think about acceptance of resignation

1. His resignation accepted by employer. Employer has no track he is on poll duty.
2. He was not getting salary from govt.
3. What kind of legal action he may face if not attended duty?

one can be jailed for refusing polling duty whether his resignation is accepted or not whether he is paid by govt or not.
