Rent deposit

Hi,

I have vacated the rented apartment, paid all the bills on time. When I asked my landlord for the security deposit. He is asking for the rent agreement, which i have lost. Although I have the photo copy of it, but he is not accepting it. He is saying that she has to sign on the originals but nowhere I have seen and there is no place on the agreement also where she can sign. Pleace advise.

Your early response is appreciated.

did she first of all give you the oroginal because as per procedure the owner only will be retaining the original rent agreement and the tenant would be given a signed photocopy of it

Yes, she gave me the original but I have misplaced it.

Is the original copy required because I am having the photo copy of it as an evidence.

If the security money is not high, since you have vacated the rent house, better to proceed leaving it. Otherwise give a legal notice demanding the security money. And on the basis of the landlord reply you will have to base your further proceedings
