Daughter throws out septuagenarian mother

Despite a court order that directed the children of Aisha Shaikh (73) to provide her with food, clothing and shelter, the septuagenarian finds herself out of her daughter Yasmeen's home on Thursday morning.

The senior citizen has been pitifully camping outside her daughter's locked A-2/ 27 flat on the seventh floor in Brahma Estate on the Kondhwa main road for the past 33 hours.

DNA in its report, 'Court rescues senior citizen harassed by her children (October 12)' had stated how following acute harassment of the mother at the hands of her son Anjum (39) and daughter Yasmeen Shaikh (32), the court had directed them to provide support to the elderly. Aisha, a single parent, had brought up her children in Mumbai and provided them higher education.

Aisha had filed a complaint on October 3 in the court under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, against her son Anjum of Bhavani Peth and her Mumbai-based daughter Yasmeen, who has an apartment in Brahma Estate, Kondhwa.

When DNA visited Brahma Estate on Thursday afternoon, Aisha was sitting alone outside her daughter's locked apartment and reciting prayers. She told this correspondent that she suffered from blood pressure and had not eaten for several hours. She was also forced to use the watchman's toilet in the building.

Aisha told DNA that her daughter Yasmeen had faked an injury in a bid to establish that she had been attacked by her mother. "My son-in-law also threatened me with dire consequences. This is when I filed a police complaint against my daughter with the help of NGO Chetna Mahila Vikas Kendra, who have been helping me."
Advocate Asunta Pardhe of Chetna Mahila Vikas Kendra told DNA that they were moving the court once again in this matter.
Meanwhile, Yasmeen told DNA, "I have not thrown my mother out of my house. These are false allegations."
