purpose of witness in land registeration

An acquaintance is asking me to be a witness her purchase of a land. I don't know them well, she says it's just formality signature in registrar's office. Can someone tell me what are the ways it can affect a witness and what are the repercussions?

Witness to a particular transaction is of not general thing. It has great siginificance to validate that particualr transaction.If you does not know them well, please does not be a witness to any such kind of transactions to avoid any problems that may crop up in future.
