Bounced cheque fir

Shall we file FIR after serving registered post to the defaulter or we file civil case after waiting for 15 days after cheque bounced?

Why do U intend to file a civil case? U have to file a criminal case u/s 138 NI ACT,within 45 days from the date of issuing the statutory notice.Why file an FIR?
