I've served a legal notice by registered post to my customer for bounced cheque. He has not claimed it. What should be the next step and what could be the penalty if he fails to pay the sum. Amount is small but the action is to teach a lesson for not honouring payment liability

The penalty is jail. File a Complaint.

No penalty for rejecting the Notice, however.
It's not mandatory to receive a Notice.

There is no penalty for not receiving Notice , but court will take cognizance if address is perfect and not appering in the court.
