Maintenance to wife

I would like to know that any person (Mr. A ) who has become mentally unstable after going through a False 498A case or in other words medically unfit is still required by law to pay maintenance to his wife who deserted him long time back  and filed a false case of 498A on him and his family members. Even thought the  court trashed the case after hearing both parties and gave a judgement to release all the family members including Mr.A.

Wife is earning a decent salary and is living comfortably besides she is much more educated than her husband. Please advise in this matter.

On medical grounds if the person unfit to work and earn livelihood cannot be forced to provide maintenance for wife who is earning and has means to maintain herself.
