Cyber Crime: A simple yet sturdy definition of cyber crime would be "unlawful acts wherein the computer is either a tool or a target or both".

Where the computer is a tool for an unlawful act:

This kind of activity usually involves a modification of a conventional crime by using computers. Some examples are:

  1. Financial Crimes
  2. Cyber p*rnography
  3. Sale of illegal articles
  4. Online gambling
  5. Intellectual Property crimes
  6. Email spoofing
  7. Forgery
  8. Cyber Defamation
  9. Cyber stalking

Where the computer is the target for an unlawful act:

It may be noted that in these activities the computer may also be a tool. This kind of activity usually involves sophisticated crimes usually out of the purview of conventional criminal law. Some examples are:

  1. Unauthorized access to computer systems or networks
  2. Theft of information contained in electric form
  3. Email bombing
  4. Data diddling
  5. Salami attacks
  6. Denial of Service attack
  7. Virus / Worm attacks
  8. Logic bombs
  9. Trojan attacks
  10. Internet time thefts
  11. Web jacking
  12. Theft of Computer system
  13. Physically damaging a computer system

oCyber terrorism
oCyber p*rnography
oDefamation
oCyber stalking (section 509 IPC)
oSale of illegal articles-narcotics, weapons, wildlife
oOnline gambling
oIntellectual Property crimes- software piracy, copyright infringement, trademarks violations, theft of computer source code
oEmail spoofing
oForgery
oPhising
oCredit card frauds

E-Mail bombing:Email bombing refers to sending a large amount of e-mails to the victim resulting in interruption in the victims’ e-mail account or mail servers.
Data diddling:This kind of an attack involves altering the raw data just before it is processed by a computer and then changing it back after the processing is completed.

Salami attacks:Those attacks are used for the commission of financial crimes. The key here is to make the alteration so insignificant that in a single case it would go completely unnoticed e.g. A bank employee inserts a program into bank’s servers, that deducts a small amount from the account of every customer
Denial of Service: This involves flooding computer resources with more requests than it can handle. This causes the resources to crash thereby denying authorized users the service offered by the resources.

Data diddling: changing data prior or during input into a computer

HI,

WILL ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHETHER  DOING ANYTHING  WITH  OUR INTERNET ACCOUNT ONLY WITHOUT  INVOLVING  OTHER PEOPLE IS A CYBER CRIME OR NOT?

IT DEPENDS ON THE NATURE OF ACTIVITIES. IF U SIMPLY DRAFT AN E MAIL AND SAVE IT IS NOT A CRIME. BUT IF U DOWNLOAD CHILD PORNO BY USING UR MAIL ID IS AN OFFENCE.

Hi

Cyber p*rnography Is not A CRIME

Only Child p*rnography IS CRIME In India.

Police & Some Advocates Took advantage & try to use p*rnography act in all situtaions BUT THE Bottom Line is that Publishing Of Child p*rnography IS CRIME In India.

Because It all know That Even America Cant Stop p*rnography They started given licence For p*rnography But They Can Stop Child p*rnography So It is not Allowed in India & US.

Even without involving other people, it is possible to categorise certain action as cyber crime.  A simple message encouraging terrorism or any unlawful activity, even if indirectly, would amount to cyber crime.  It all depends upon the content of the writing on your account.
