thanks Saravanan. I read somewhere on the internet that the transfer to spouse should be exempt for payment of stamp duty. At least Maharashtra, Punjab & Haryana have enacted such laws. Please correct me if I'm wrong. are other states going to follow suit?

yes you are right the stamp duty is waived for gift to family members in maharashtra but to my knowledge not in up.you can contact the sub registrar office to get a clear idea
