Tn engg admissions

Dear Sir,

As per the following document : , the method used to Normalize the marks scored across CBSE/HSC/ISC is given below.

My contention is that this method is flawed because the %age of candidates scroring the top marks in each of the CBSE/ISC/HSC syllabus based board exams is not the same.

Hence, the admission process is biassed towards the HSC syllabus and a number of students are impacted because of this.

In previous years, the Standardization process was to introduce an Entrance Exam. This is still the practice in States like Kerala. The JEE Main Entrance exam is adopted by many others.

Hence TN Engg Admissions process should be challenged.

Is there a way to file a Class Action Suit to stay the Admission Process and have a Court look into this?

6. MODE OF SELECTION (a) (i) ADMISSION TO GENERAL CATEGORY The selection of candidates will be based on the marks obtained in the prescribed subjects reduced to 200 (Mathematics – 100, Physics + Chemistry – 100) in the qualifying examination. (ii) Normalisation of Marks and Inter-se Merit As per Tamil Nadu Acts No.3 of 2007, dt: 05.03.2007 and G.O. (Ms) No.77 HE (J2) Dept, dt: 05.04.2007, the marks obtained by the students in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by various Boards or Authority shall be equated with the marks obtained by the students in the same subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by the State Board of Tamil Nadu by adopting the method of normalisation. (e.g.) If the highest mark secured by the student of State Board of Tamil Nadu in Physics is 100 and the highest mark secured by a student of any other Board in the same subject is 90 both the highest marks will be considered to be equal to 100. If a student of the other Board secures 60 marks in Physics when the first mark in Physics in the same Board is 90, 60 marks will be considered to be equal to 66.66 marks as arrived below. 100 x 60 = 66.66 % 90 After normalisation of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by different Boards, the qualified students shall be merged into a common merit list. In the case of candidates who have qualified from National Boards namely CBSE and ISCE. the highest mark obtained in the relevant subject by the candidates at the National Level alone will be taken into consideration for normalisation. The Other Boards will be requested to furnish the maximum marks scored in the relevant subjects. In case, such marks are not available before the preparation of rank, the maximum marks scored in that Board will be considered as 100 %.

swamiji, today any education system is not dependable for you end up learning practically nothing meaningful except some certificates.

today see what is happening in MP and adjoining states.

percentages mostly based on subjective evaluation of examiner. so not reliable measure. that way only A L MUDALIAR as VICE CHANCELLOR OF MADRAS UNIV intriduced grades like A,B,C,D. but today you have all blessed percentages

yes you can move the high court but just you might only delay the admissions, no meaningful could be obtained, is my iew sir.

Thank you for your response.

When it comes to Math/Physics/Chemistry subjects, the evaluation is quite straight forward.

The difference in ISC/CBSE/HSC is in the Syllabus.

Hence my argument that the above Normalization method is unfair.

Sometimes, the Board of Admissions get overwhelmed by the total # of students that need to go thru' the Admissions process and try to look for a simpler solution.

In this case, Not Standardizing the Scores the right way has been the solution.

A number of students are affected because of this approach ranging from not getting admissions to having to accept an Engg discipline that is not their preferred area etc.,

Now, parents who can afford to pay for a undergraduate program abroad will look at that option, others will go for Self-financing colleges for Management quota, some will drop out of engineering etc., Overall, not a fair process.

Can you help file a Class Action Suit ? What is the next step ? At least it will Register that something unfair is going on and if there is some Justice left in the system some action will be taken.
