Solar Lanterns etc are goods and are liable to VAT. It depends on the states which allow exemptions. Usually solar lanterns are exempt or taxed at low rates to encourage renewable energy devices. Please refer to Maharastra notifications and schedules for whether these goods are exempt or taxed at low rates.
