Resignation during probationary period

sir/madam

in my offer letter it is mentioned that if desirous of leaving the organisation i shall give three months notice to bank.

Kindly tell whether giving notice to bank and serving notice to the bank means one and is same?

I was persuming that serving notice means to complete 3 months in bank service.

please advise.
