Regarding tenant's rent

Is rental receipt mandatory to a tenant who is paying by cheque?

It is better to keep a record of rent paid through reciept, as acknowledgement and future refenrence, if need be.

It is better to maintain such receipts to avoid unforeseen embarrassing situations in future due to this.

If the rental amount is paid through cheque, rental receipt is not mandatory.

However, safer side, it is advisable to get receipt from the land lord with an endorsement that the amount/cheque was received by him towards the rent payable for the specific period by specifying the property.
