Regarding: election comissioner

Hi,

Can anyone let me know whether Election Comission chief/officer answerable to prime minister or chief minister of state for any lapse of management during the election time? If not then whom is he/sher answerable to?

Regards,

Raj

Election Commission is answerable only to the President. Council of Ministers (including PM and CM) play no role in deciding the election schedule and time limits. The schedule and timings are decided after consultations between Election commission and the President. Any delay in conducting/ finishing the elections can only be justified if it is due to unavoidable "Acts of God" like a natural calamity etc. Using RTI and Sending letters to the president secretariat along with copies to the concerned EC officials might lead to a worthwile action.

It is worth mentioning that to ensure efficiency and autonomy, Election Commision, UPSC and CA&G are answerable only to the President.
