REFLECTIONS ON FUTURE OF KASHMIR

-DR. ABDUL RUFF COLACHAL

_______________

Kashmir continues to  face blood bath situation owing to  perpetual  terror attacks by huge Indian forces brutally occupying  the alien lands. . Indian regime and media enjoy  the situation and relish the  Kashmiri blood taste.

Generally the illegal occupiers do not vacate the lands they  have  annexed by force owing to their  military prowess.

Jammu Kashmir, under  foreign occupation, is by no means a small country. The territory of Kashmir is larger in size than 121 independent countries and bigger in number than 117 nations of the world.

India claims Jammu Kashmir as an integral part of  modern India while Pakistan seems eager to make it an integral part of Islamabad  regime because of  close cultural  affinity of both nations.

Pakistanis including those living abroad seek  freedom o for Kashmir form India  only to make it an integral part of Pakistan. Even Azad Kashmir, under Pakistani control,  also  seek freedom certificate for  India occupied Jammu Kashmir  only to be handed over to Pakistan.

India  obviously opposes this "integral" move of Pakistan.

With Kashmiris waging  a consistent struggle for  freedom with Pakistani support , India sees Kashmir as a battlefield, a buffer zone  in case of war with China or Pakistan. .

India refuses to grant  the Kashmiris independence  ostensibly  because it  foresees  unification of Kashmir with Pakistan once  free f of India control.

Today,  as the result of  global terror wars perpetrated by NATO rogue states,  Palestinians and Kashmiris,   to mention a few,  have been suffering without any  positive outcome  Indo-US nuclear pact, pushed by the Manmohan regime,  has further cemented  the  terror links and  India enjoys full liberty to  attack the Kashmiris, especially Muslims  only to end their strive for freedom and independence  Moreover, India corporate  magnets  offer  sumptuous  money to USA  to keep the  Whit House in its favor against the Kashmiris.

With a view to fooling the Kashmiris, occasionally Indian intelligence  spreads  the false news about  regime willingness to settle the Kashmir issue while the leaders keep reiterating  the same official  stuff that Kashmir is an integral part of  India. Not only that.  India invites foreign  dignitaries  treating them to best food and  and other services  and request them to sign the  doted  paper about their support o for India keeping Kashmir  as its part.

Kashmir has as many political parties and leaders as  streets/zones in it. but  most them seek complete freedom from decades' long Indian yoke

Kashmir has been historically independent, except in the anarchic conditions of late 18th and the first half of 19th centuries. When the British Empire decided to quit Indian continent, it could, as the “owner of the region”,  have asked both India and Pakistan to share the Jammu Kashmir and so India occupied part of it and Pakistani another part.

Colonialism keeps the nations and people under terror control. Kashmiris face the brutality of Indian occupational military forces, seeking to silence the freedom seeking Kashmiri Muslims. .

Kashmir does not present a so-called "clash of civilizations" in which two peoples of opposite values confront one another. That the Kashmiri people are finely friendly, exceptionally tolerant and accommodating of religious differences can be gauged by their peaceful struggle for freedom for India for years now, former British colony. Their and friendships are routine among Pundits, Muslims, Buddhists, and Sikhs.

UN has a duty  to deliver justice to  every nation on earth  and also responsibility  for ensuring global peace. UN resolution  dated the January 5, 1949 says that the future of Jammu and Kashmir shall be decided through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite; there shall be no threat, coercion or intimidation, bribery or other undue influence on the voters in the plebiscite; no restrictions should be placed on legitimate political activity throughout the State; all subjects of the State, regardless of creed, caste or party, shall be safe and free in expressing their views; and there shall be freedom of the Press, speech and assembly.

The lapse of British paramountcy on August 14, 1947, princely states including Jammu & Kashmir enjoyed three options: accession to India or Pakistan, or independence. But the choice, according to India's Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, was to be made by popular referendum in cases where the creed of the ruler varied from the religion of the majority.

India under Pundit Nehru denied the fundamental democratic principle of self determination in the case of Kashmir while the same had been sternly applied by Nehru in Hyderabad and Junagadh where the rulers were Muslim but their inhabitants largely Hindu. Kashmir presented a converse case: the Maharaja was Hindu but the majority subscribed to Islam.

UN chief Ban Ki-Moon should impress upon the parties concerned to create an atmosphere for a tripartite dialogue – India, Pakistan and Kashmiri leadership - that will guarantee peace and prosperity not only in Kashmir but in the whole region of South Asia which is home to one-fifth of total human race.

The question here  obviously is:  Is India fooling  Kashmiris or UN?

Pakistan should come out with a honest  statement of  how it sees the future Kashmir if and when India  agrees for  independence. It should explain what it means by "resolution" of Kashmir issue.

remaining Kashmiris in India occupied Jammu Kashmir need to be saved.  Pakistan should  now , before too late, declare its  determination to make a unified Jammu Kashmir by merging Azad Kashmir with India occupied Kashmir  and step up efforts to  reestablish Jammu Kashmir.  Also, the Kashmiris in Azad Kashmir  and Jammu & Kashmir  under Indian  occupation

By maintaining absolute secrecy, Pakistan is  indirectly getting Kashmiri Muslims killed by Indian p forces.  Kashmirs must, therefore, also declare their intention of  living in their own  Jammu Kashmir and not seeking to be an integral part of either India or Pakistan.

Kashmiris on both sides of the divide should seek  full independence from both arrogant India and and friendly Pakistan.

Many Indians support the cause of Kashmiris for freedom  thinking that  Kashmiris want to rebuild their own home  in a healthy fashion  and certainly they may not support the Kashmiri freedom fighters and masses if they  want to join Pakistan to remain occupied  by foreign forces -- from Indian to Pakistani.

Hence the Kashmiris  need to reset the objectives of their struggle to make a home for themselves and not to serve any nation .  They can, however,  forge  sound friendly ties with both India and Pakistan, and maybe  even go for stronger relationship with Pakistan.  Thai sounds  good. And genuine.

Unfortunately, today there is not even on Muslim nation practicing  truly Islamic faith.
