I have a typical case of recovery from IT. I have put up the case for IT tribunal hearing. The case is to be heard in Feb 2013. But the recovery officer is threatening me that he will take action under 171 act and penalize the directors. What is IT act 171? And can we not do anything? What's the recourse for this? The amount is around INR 3 crore to be recovered from IT and we have disputed this as its based on wrong assumptions.

Dear friend
Section 171 is about assessing Hindu Undivided Family and partition before or at the time of assessment. Is your case covered under this? There is nothing to worry, the department cannot proceed against you without giving you and family members a notice.
