Mother's name in marriage certificate

Hello everyone,

My parents' marriage certificate from 1984 mentions my mother's maiden name but her "after marriage" name is left blank.

This is a simple change in surname to that of her husband (my father).

What is the proper process to have it included?

I can provide proofs such as copies of her passport which mentions her "after marriage" name and her husband's name. I can also provide an affidavit from my mother declaring the same.

I had visited the sub-registrar's office in Hyderabad where my parents' marriage was registered but the clerk there told me that it is not possible and that I have to undertake a long winding court process to make the change.

I'd like know if its possible to make this inclusion with a simple application to the sub-registrar?

I'd appreciate your expert advice very much.

Thank you,
GV

Sorry, forgot to mention it earlier.

It is for UK Visa. They have issued a refusal citing that the names don't match.
