The insurer looks into insurable interest while formulating policies and family members that can be covered and nominee that can be chosen.

The Ex. Wife may not be dependent as pr T&C of the insurer and policy!

The T&C of indivisual policy are to be looked into e.g;

GROUP MEDICLAIM INSURNACE POLICY FOR THE REGULAR EMPLOYEES OF INDIAN STATISTICAL INSTITUE AND THEIR DEPENDANT FAMILY MEMBERS

4. CONCESSIONS FOR FAMILY:   A. Definition – ‘Family’ means employee’s ‐  (a) Husband/Wife including more than one spouse (as per government rule) and also judicially separated wife.

B. Dependency

(b) Deletion from Family is applicable in following contingencies: (2) Divorce of the spouse

Check with establishment /insurer!
