Legal aid cells are formed at Taluka level across the nation.  Are they justifiable for their services?

Sincerely not.

The Supreme court has laid down that legal aid should be provided right from the beginning, but sadly it is not so. As per my knowledge, as soon as the accused is produced before Magistrate within 24 hours of his arrest and he is remanded to police/judicial custody - he ought to be provided legal aid. However this is not the case. Most of the times, it is when charge sheet is filed and the matter is ready for hearing, an Advocate from Legal Aid cell is appointed.  I am open to correction.
