Is it gender discrimination to require male candidates only?

Is it legal for a company to mention in their job vacancy ad that only male candidates need to apply for that job? Does it come under gender descrimination? My sister spoke to their HR department and was told that from their previous experience female employees don't stay for long (usually quits within one year). Since they are hiring freshers, they prefer male candidates since they are investing in training.

They may tell her orally but no where they would put this in writing as it would amout to discrimination.

Check the guidelines issued by the respective authority on recruitment in trade/industry/segement and it might have mentioned that female candidiates be appointed...................
