Indian lawyers association?

Hi All,

I was wondering if there is an official, government run institution which certifies all lawyers in India? for example, if someone claims they are a lawyer/advocate and this had to be verified through a medium, does India have some sort of an official lawyers' association with which they must have been registered? Alternatively, if not official, is there any body which certifies or offers accreditation to individual lawyers or law firms in India, for every lawyer?

Many thanks for your help in advance!

The Bar Council of India is a statutory body created by Parliament to regulate and represent the Indian bar. The bar council of India registers lawyers and perform the regulatory function by prescribing standards of professional conduct and etiquette and by exercising disciplinary jurisdiction over the bar.

Many thanks for the information Mr. Rachakonda. Do you think the Bar Council of India will be able to verify the authenticity of any lawyer/advocates across India? I may contact them directly as well.
