I am writting this to increase my knowledge on the misuse of law from the girl's side (would be bride).
My brother was tying a knot with the girl from our workplace, we cooperated to the maximum level to satisfy her demands and so called love of my brother towards her.
She started blackmailing after the engagement was done, and it was not easy to proceed with the marriage in those circumstances. We had to pay for all the expenses of the marriage. We gave a lot of jewellery to the girl's family.
Now after we have cancelled the marriage, she has filled the case of harrasment and demanded 5 lacs as a compensation for cancelling the marrige.
We have no objection to this, but now why we want to file a case is cause she has refused to give back the family jewellery, even after compensation and has threatened to take vengence.
Would seek the expert comments, on the mattter and guidance of how the case can be filed and also under what act and which category (civil, family orr criminal)
