Gift deed

My father has a plot of land in Settinayakanpatti village, Dindigul. He wants to make a gift deed and gift this land to me. We are living in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Will he need to travel to Dindigul to do the paperwork?

Since he is now 92 years of age & unable to travel, how can the gift deed be 'registered/executed'? Please help! We are living in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Your help would be much appreciated sir!

A gift deed can be registered at any place it need not be registered at the place where the property is located. If your father is in Mumbai, Maharashtra he can execute the gift deed from his house.

You have further mentioned that your father is aged 92 years. You can request the Registrar to come at your place by filing an application/Letter before him or the concerned officer of the Department. On submission of the application the Registrar shall note the same and suggest you to fix date for him to visit your house. At your house he may register your father deed before family, friends and witnesses.

Once the Deed is executed and registered kindly send the same to the office of the Tehsildar where the land is located and request him to make changes in his muster.

Though he can give a Power of Attorney to anybody else and even to you theoretically, still it is most desirable to take him there to avoid possible complications in future. Registration can be done only in the jurisdiction of sub-registrar where property is situated.
