Distance education for government employees

Sir,

I am currently employed in an Autonomous Body (Central Government). I wish to pursue educational courses through Distance Education mode.

Recently i have enrolled in MA Rural Development programme with IGNOU through distance education. I did not obtain prior approval or NOC from my employer as the deadlines were nearing and i thought i ll miss it if i go through proper channel.

Now I am in a dilemma, whether I should inform my employer and request for a post-facto approval or should I let it be as it is. because if i do not inform, it will not be counted in my service book and i may not get benefit out of it. Furthermore, In future I may join some other government job (like Civil Services etc.), will it be a problem then ? Will I be asked how i have done this distance course without the knowledge of my previous employer ?

I want to know whether  education pursued through Distance Education through Open Universities be informed to the office and approval be taken in prior in case of government servants. What kind of disciplinary action can be taken under Conduct Rules for such cases.

Can one do more than one course through distance medium simultaneously ?

So i request the senior members having an idea on such cases to kindly comment and provide some valuable suggestions.

Regards,

Learning
