Company changed notice period after joining

I was working for a company from 4 yrs & my notice period was 3 months. lastyear my company sold the business to another company. The new company given fresh offer letter mentioning notice period of 1 month & after one week changed to 3 months.

Is that legal to change notice period after joining?

I resigned recently the company is forcing me to serve 3 month notice. Not accepting even i agree to pay salary of one month.

Please guide me what should I do?

Thanks for your comments in advance.

It is felt that the information posted by you is not sufficient.

It was sold or takenover with flock-stock-and barrel.

Were you supplied with any circular on sale and detailed T&C of takeover/sale and did the old company ask you to resign and did it settle FnF dues? Was there any clause that new company shall count past service for tenure, gratuity etc?

What is this company (old and new): Coomercial ,Industrial?

You are located in which state?

The reporting office, corporate office, Redg. office is located in which state?

How many person are employed in it?

What is your designation and nature of duties?

Does it have its certified standing orders or model standing orders apply? Is your designation covered by standing orders?
