CBI signs MoU with NASSCOM for cyber crime investigation, training and computer forensics.

 

 

Director CBI Shri Ashwani Kumar has said that the cyber crime detection and investigation are crucial to both the government and private sector due to its implications for security and economy. The government and law enforcement agencies on the one hand and the private sector led by the IT companies on the other can come together and forge a collaboration to fight this threat. The Director said this while addressing a gathering of CBI officers and the National Association of Software & Services Companies (NASSCOM) Representatives on the occasion of MoU signing ceremony between CBI and NASSCOM at CBI HQs today. The Cyber and Hi-Tech Crime Investigation & Training (CHCIT) Centre will serve as a networking platform for the purpose.

In terms of the agreement, this MoU is to establish collaboration between Law Enforcement Agencies through CHCIT Centre of CBI and the IT Industry through Data Security Council of India (DSCI) and NASSCOM, with the purpose of sharing better awareness on the emerging technologies, security standards, best practices amongst various enforcement agencies globally, newer challenges in managing Cyber crime and preparing the stakeholders in their ability to educate and update themselves in emerging cyber technologies leading to Cyber crime Investigation, Training & Computer Forensics.

The Director also announced in the gathering that it is only a matter of time when eventually all the exclusive CBI courts (existing & planned) will be converted into e-Courts, therefore, we have to prepare the investigators and prosecutors for this purpose. CBI has already initiated a process in this direction by providing laptops and cell phones to all its investigators and prosecutors and by providing them training in Computers in CBI Academy.

On this occasion Mr Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM, said, “Today, technology has become pivotal in our daily work. Security is emerging as a major corporate and Government concern worldwide. The very concept of security and threat landscape is going through a critical review, challenging the established understanding and approaches. This MoU with the CBI will let NASSCOM to play the role of ‘facilitator’. It will ensure active involvement in bringing the latest technological developments from across the globe and the industry to the CBI. We will also be preparing a virtual pool of the top experts in the industry that the CBI can have access to as and when required”.

CBI conducts exclusive courses on cyber crime investigation for police officers of the States and the neighbouring countries. For this, the Academy has a pool of experienced and qualified instructors and investigators along with two Cyber Labs and one Hi-Tech Cyber Forensics Lab. The Hi-Tech Cyber Lab has been recently set up with the help of the Ministry of IT which granted Rs. three and a half crore for the same. This Lab is equipped with the latest and state of the art gadgets and software for investigation and forensic analysis.

Apart from signing of MoU with NASSCOM, the CBI is working in partnership have given an exposure to the officers on the latest developments in the field of cyber security expertise that is available with other investigating agencies around the world and the global best practices. This partnership with INTERPOL is also expected to update the investigators and the IT professionals around the world on cyber security, data protection and privacy issues.
